What is IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, is a globally accepted English language testing system for non-native English speakers. The British Council, IDP, and Cambridge English jointly administer IELTS.

Over 3,000 academic institutions in Australia, Britain, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United States accept IELTS. Over 3.5 million tests were taken in more than 140 nations in 2018. It covers high stakes for English language testing systems.

Both IELTS Academic and IELTS General serve as valid proof of English proficiency. Candidates who wish to proceed for immigration purposes have to appear for the IELTS exam. The IELTS test report form (TRF) awards all test takers with a band, ranging from 1 to 9, based on their linguistic skills. Apparently, band 1 signifies a “non-user” and band 9 signifies an expert user of the English language.
